Spring cleaning is underway, but do you know what is in your cleaning products? Many of the cleaning supplies we use contain harsh chemicals that have negative impacts on our bodies. One of those negative impacts on our body is the disruption it puts on our endocrine system, therefore causing hormone imbalance. There are many chemicals in products that create this imbalance, one of which is a xenoestrogen – a subcategory of endocrine-disrupting chemicals. Once a xenoestrogen gets into your body from cleaning and beauty products we use, as well as the food we eat, it pretends to be the hormone, estrogen. If we are constantly surrounded by these estrogen imposters, they increase estrogen levels in the body. The process of making the swaps from unhealthy to healthy cleaning products can be overwhelming. One tip to make this process less overwhelming is to swap your old products once they are gone. This way you are using up what you have on hand and you are not spending all your money at once!

Our best advice: start slow and swap one thing at a time. It doesn’t have to be all or nothing. When you run out of one thing, try a new, lower-toxic item. But where to start?
