How 1 Patient Found Healing from Terrible Chronic Pain through Physical Therapy and Functional Medicine

Jan 16, 2025

Scott spent years stuck in chronic pain, inflammation, and low back issues—until he found the real fix at Mitchell Holistic Health. With holistic physical therapy, functional medicine, and an elimination diet, he didn’t just get rid of pain—he lost weight, gained energy, and took his life back. No more sitting on the sidelines—he’s proof that when you fix the root cause, everything changes!

Chronic Pain Led me to Physical Therapy at Mitchell Holistic Health

“I was having some knee pain about two years ago and was advised to come here. Dr. Mitchell took a look and, considering the whole picture of what might be causing the pain. He suggested that my lower back needed strengthening. So, we did some exercises, and he gave me some things to work on. I came back a year ago today and mentioned other pains I was having. He said I had a lot of different pains, possibly from inflammation, and gave me some other exercises to work on, which helped alleviate some of the pain. He also suggested a few other things.

Inflammation Causing Chronic Pain: Utilizing the Elimination Diet

Then, this spring, he contacted me and asked if I’d like to try the Elimination Diet to see if it might help. I started working with Jordan in mid-February or March, and by the end of March, we began the Elimination Diet, which lasted two months. I eliminated eggs, dairy, and bread from my diet, and we met regularly to check in and see if the pain was related to inflammation.

Each time I worked with Dr. Mitchell, the pain was alleviated, but it would come back. However, with the Elimination Diet, I started feeling less pain almost immediately. When it did come back, it wasn’t as intense, and it went away quicker. Jordan explained that the Elimination Diet wasn’t a weight loss plan, but it significantly helped with inflammation. I also experienced better sleep, improved health habits, and learned how to take better care of myself as I get older. There are still going to be aches and pains, but they’re not severe enough to sideline me. I can still work out and keep moving.

A Holistic Approach to Chronic Knee and Back Pain

Before starting this journey, I didn’t know what holistic health was, but now I understand that it’s about working with the whole body. I could have just come in for knee pain and been given exercises to focus solely on my knees, but that wouldn’t have solved the underlying issue. It’s a lifelong process, and it’s better to start now before I get too old. I view it as an investment, not just an expense, so that I can avoid the aches and pains that many others experience as they age.
