Cold and Flu season can be hard to avoid but there are many natural ways to help prevent or relieve symptoms
Vitamins to consider
Vitamin C: Helps shorten the duration of colds and decrease the number of colds physically active people get
Vitamin D3 + K2: Studies show that the majority of people are deficient in vitamin D. Increasing the amount of vitamin D in your body will help genes within the immune system function more efficiently
Zinc: Having antiviral effects, zinc helps lessens the symptoms of the virus you have, getting you better faster, and stronger. Making sure you do not take too much zinc is important. Since it is a trace mineral, your body only needs a small amount
Herbs that help relieve symptoms
Echinacea: This is important to take right away when you first develop symptoms. This herb helps your body fight off infections and lowers inflammation. Ways to consume echinacea are through tablets or cups of echinacea tea
Elderberry: This herb is shown to deactivate the flu virus and strengthen immunity. Studies also show that elderberry attacks the flu virus to reduce inflammation
Essential oils to consider
Peppermint: Its main active ingredient is menthol which is an effective decongestant. It thins mucus, is a good expectorant, and soothes and calms sore throats
Frankincense: Has great antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory properties that can drastically shorten the duration of your colds. It is also an expectorant
Clove: Adds warmth as well as opens nasal airways which improves breathing. Similar to frankincense, it is an antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory which can neutralize germs
